Four years of travel and research in the Middle
East provided the inspiration for the music of Arabesque Rising. The piano and
trumpet pieces composed for the album Mosaic reach across a broad spectrum of
jazz, classical, and Arabic musical styles.
Listening to the sounds of this mosaic, images
appear, recounting the fascinating story of four cities in ancient Lebanon:
Byblos, Baalbeck, Tyre, and Aanjar. The rise and fall of empires in the Middle
East from the Phoenicians to the Roman Empire portray our quest
for immortality and the ensuing impermanence of human civilization over time.
